Davanagere, Dec. 15 -- The last rites of senior Congress leader and former minister Dr Shamanur Shivashankarappa were performed with full state honours at the Kalleshwara Mill premises here on Monday following Veerashaiva-Lingayat traditions.
The 94-year-old veteran leader passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday after prolonged treatment for age-related ailments.
Earlier in the day, his mortal remains were brought to his native Davanagere and kept at the high school grounds, where thousands of people, including party workers, followers and well-wishers, paid their last respects.
