Chandigarh, Nov. 16 -- The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has introduced stricter conditions for visa applications of solo women pilgrims travelling to Pakistan, following a case in which a Punjab woman, Sarabjit Kaur, did not return with the official jatha and reportedly married in Pakistan after changing her identity.
SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh said the incident highlighted serious gaps in the verification process and should have been detected earlier. He added that media reports confirming Sarabjit's name change and marriage strongly suggested she had pre-existing contacts in Pakistan.
