Chandigarh, July 28 -- SGPC chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has called on the Centre to release Sikh prisoners, referred to as 'Bandi Singhs', as a true tribute to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his 350th martyrdom anniversary. Dhami emphasized that the release of these prisoners would honour the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur, who sacrificed his life for religious freedom at Delhi's Chandni Chowk.
In a press conference following the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) meeting, Dhami highlighted a 2019 announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th Prakash Purab, promising the release of Bandi Singhs and the commutation of death sentences to life imprisonment.
