Mumbai, Oct. 8 -- Government ashram schools across Maharashtra are facing a severe teacher shortage, with hundreds of institutions functioning without adequate staff since June 2025, disrupting education of tribal students.
The crisis currently affects 497 government-run and 556 government-aided ashram schools, collectively serving nearly 2.5 lakh tribal students, in violation of the Right to Education Act's provisions for quality education.
The situation has worsened to the point where parents in Kalwan and Surgana talukas have locked down schools and taken their children home, citing the complete absence of teachers and support staff.
