Lucknow, Dec. 29 -- A severe cold wave and dense fog continue to grip Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and several other parts of the state.
A sharp drop in daytime temperatures has been recorded in Varanasi, Kanpur city, Prayagraj, Ghazipur, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, and surrounding districts, severely impacting daily life.
Meanwhile, the UP government has ordered the closure of schools up to class 12 until January 1st.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is no immediate relief from the cold expected. IMD has issued an orange alert for dense fog in several districts of the state for Monday and Tuesday. The department has warned that visibility will be extremely low during the morning hours.
