Biswendu BhattacharjeeBelem (Brazil), Nov. 18 -- Pressure has been mounting on India as several countries in South Asia have rallied behind a commitment to phase out fossil fuels at COP30.

Nepal and Sri Lanka joined the high-level action agenda, expressing their solidarity with the initiative here today.

In a significant move, Cambodia has also signed on to the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative, bringing the total number of supporting countries to 18. Pakistan has previously joined the coalition against fossil fuels, while some activists have raised concerns that the UNFCCC process is being overshadowed by fossil fuel interests. Cambodia stands out as the second country in Southeast Asia to endorse the Treaty proposal.
