Bengaluru, Aug. 18 -- Several bar associations in Karnataka have strongly opposed the Central government's plan to establish evening courts to expedite the disposal of long-pending cases in district courts. The proposal, aimed at addressing India's mounting backlog of cases, has drawn criticism for being unscientific, impractical, and likely to increase pressure on lawyers, the Bangalore Bar Association and other prominent associations said today. The Bangalore Bar Association, one of Asia's largest, has already written to principal district judges opposing the plan.
