Seven-year-old boy who fell into drain in Lucknow found dead in Gomti River after 18-hour search

Lucknow, Sept. 19 -- A seven-year-old boy, Veeru, who had fallen into an overflowing drain in Hussainganj on Wednesday evening, was found dead nearly 18 hours later in the Gomti River, around four kilometers away from the accident site.

Veeru was playing near the Haider Canal drain with his friends when he lost balance due to a broken railing and slippery conditions and fell into the strong current.

Despite immediate efforts by the local children and residents, the swift flow of water made rescue attempts unsuccessful. Following the incident, the Hussainganj police quickly called in the Fire Department and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), who launched a large-scale search operation.
