New Delhi, Oct. 7 -- A Special CBI Court in Mumbai on Tuesday sentenced two police officials to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs two lakh each in a 2009 custodial death case from Ghatkopar.
The court convicted Sanjay Sudam Khedekar, then a Police Sub-Inspector, and Raghunath Vithoba Kolekar, then a Head Constable of Ghatkopar Police Station, sentencing them to seven years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs one lakh each.
The case was registered by the CBI following a Bombay High Court order and pertained to the death of Altaf Kadir Shaikh. The deceased, who had been arrested by the Ghatkopar Police, died as a result of custodial torture by the police officials.
