Chennai, July 13 -- In yet another incident, seven fishermen from Tamil Nadu were
arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy today for allegedly fishing in their territorial waters by
crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
Their mechanised boat was also seized.
The fishermen, hailing from Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district, ventured out
for fishing yesterday when they were arrested along with their mechanised trawler.
The arrested fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai in Sri Lanka and lodged in
prison.
The growing incidents of frequent arrests of TN fishermen by the Lankan Navy personnel
has caused serious heartburn among the fishing community, as it affects their livelihood
and wanted both the Central and state government...
