Aden, July 10 -- Tensions in the Red Sea have escalated sharply after Iran-backed Houthi militia sank two commercial cargo ships in separate attacks this week, killing at least four crew members and leaving several more missing.
Seven crew members have been rescued so far, with search and rescue operations ongoing for another 14 missing, reports BBC.
The US State Department strongly condemned the attacks and called them "a continuing threat to maritime and regional security," with spokesperson Bruce Tammy saying "These attacks demonstrate the ongoing threat that Iran-backed Houthi rebels pose to freedom of navigation and to regional economic and maritime security."
