Gangtok, July 7 -- Sikkim observed a statewide 7-minute traffic halt from 11 am today to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
The initiative, part of 'A Day for Mother Earth,' aims to protect the state's fragile ecosystem and highlight the importance of eco-friendly practices. Launched by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in 2019, this annual event encourages collective efforts to address climate change.
The traffic halt aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote sustainability. The entire state of Sikkim participated in the initiative.
Vehicles on emergency duty were exempt from the traffic halt, ensuring minimal disruption to essential services.
