Kolkata, Sept. 23 -- At least seven people were killed in heavy overnight rains that lashed the metropolis, causing major rail and road traffic disruption and leaving major parts of the city, particularly the low-lying areas, waterlogged today, official sources said.

The heavy rains, possibly an effect of cloudburst, pounded the city for five hours since midnight, leading to widespread flooding and affecting transport movement in almost all roads as also those in neighbouring districts.
