Mumbai, May 28 -- Seven people were injured after violence broke out during a protest outside a pharmaceutical company in Thane district's Ambernath area, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Monday around 12:30 pm near the company premises in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) zone.

According to the FIR, a group of workers staging a sit-in confronted several individuals entering the factory, suspecting they had been hired as replacements. The protestors allegedly attacked with sticks and physically assaulted the new entrants, before chasing them away and threatening them with dire consequences if they reported to work.

All seven injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
