Guwahati, Dec. 20 -- Seven elephants were killed after the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express collided with a herd in Assam's Nagaon district on Saturday, derailing five of its coaches.

Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the accident.

Locals stated that the incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday, when the train, traveling from Sairang in Mizoram to New Delhi, hit the herd under the Jamunamukh-Kampur section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

Although the area is not a designated elephant corridor, locals had spotted a herd roaming nearby in recent days.

Meanwhile, the NFR authorities confirmed the incident and said that it took place at about 02:17 am on Saturday.
