Mumbai, May 9 -- The BSE Sensex on Friday was heavily down by 880.34 pts to settle at 79,454.47 pts as a fresh missile attack by Pakistan deepened fears of further escalation.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 265.80 pts at 24,008.00.

After the news of rising border tension between India and Pakistan, the Sensex tanked 1366 pts to 78,968.34 in early trade. It remained the day's low figure.

Throughout the day, it was improved from the opening figure but ended in red only at 79,454.47, slumping 880.34 pts from its last close.

Meanwhile, it was recorded days high at 80,032.93, still down 302 pts.

The Nifty registered a day's high at 24,164.25 and low at 23,935.75 pts.
