Mumbai, Feb. 7 -- The BSE Sensex remained negative for the third straight session on Friday, tumbling down 197.97 pts to settle at 77,860.19 as selling pressure was seen in Oil and Gas, FMCG, Energy and Industrial stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 43.40 pts at 23,559.95.

High volatility was seen during the day, as the Sensex rose 61 pts at 78,119.60. During the day, it rallied 298 pts at 78,356.98, a day high.

In late trade, it erased earlier gains, and tumbled down 583 pts at 77,475.74, days low, before closing at 77,860.19, sliding 197.97 pts from its previous close.

The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,694.50 and 23,443.20 pts respectively.
