New Delhi, March 23 -- India's stock market on Monday witnessed a major fall with both Sensex and Nifty sharply sliding amid heightened global uncertainties.

At 12:13 pm, the BSE Sensex tumbled 1,726.13 points or 2.32 per cent to 72,806.83, while the Nifty 50 dropped 564.30 points or 2.44 per cent to 22,550.20.

The market opened on a weak note and continued its downward trajectory through the morning session, hitting fresh intraday lows as selling pressure intensified across sectors. Banking, IT, and metal stocks were among the worst hit, dragging the benchmarks lower.
