Bengaluru, Feb. 8 -- union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that commercial production from India's semiconductor plant would begin within a few weeks, and asserted that the country entered semiconductor manufacturing much later than nations like China and South Korea due to lack of vision in earlier decades.

Replying to an UNI question, Vaishnaw said, "Commercial production will start from the semiconductor plant very soon. Very soon means within few weeks."He said India's delayed entry into the sector had allowed other Asian economies to surge ahead. "India has entered the semiconductor segment very late. If you see China and Korea, they are way ahead," the minister said.
