Hyderabad, Jan. 2 -- Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on Friday initiated a short-duration discussion on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the Assembly and thanked the government for taking it up.
Describing herself as a "simple tribal farmer's daughter" now serving as Rural Development Minister, Seethakka said it would be unjust to dilute or abolish MGNREGS, which she noted had ensured livelihood security for crores of rural labourers, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when it acted as a vital safety net.
Highlighting Telangana's performance, she said the scheme is being implemented in 12,760 Gram Panchayats, with 52 lakh job cards covering 1.06 crore individuals. ...
