Hyderabad, Dec. 15 -- Chairman of the Telangana Farmers' Commission Kodanda Reddy on Monday said seeds are a critical component of agriculture in both the country and Telangana, but seed companies are reaping higher profits than the farmers who cultivate them.

In a statement here, he said the Farmers' Commission has closely examined the draft Central Seed Act-2025 and found several shortcomings. To safeguard farmers' rights, the commission conducted round-table meetings to ensure that cultivators have unhindered access to quality seeds.

Kodanda Reddy pointed out that foreign seed companies have been operating in the country and the state since 1994.
