Damascus, May 17 -- Syrian security forces launched an operation in the northern Aleppo city on Saturday, targeting hideouts linked to the Islamic State (IS) group, the interior authorities said.
In a statement, the authorities said the ongoing operation has so far led to the arrest of five suspected militants. One member of the General Security forces was killed during an exchange of fire as units stormed the IS hideouts.
Following the raid, security personnel recovered several explosive devices, a booby-trapped vest, and uniforms bearing the insignia of Syrian security forces, items officials believe may have been intended for future attacks or infiltration attempts.
