Raipur, July 26 -- Four Maoists were killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Saturday evening.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding Maoist presence, a coordinated search operation was launched, which soon led to a fierce exchange of fire.

By 7 in the evening, security forces had recovered the bodies of four Maoist cadres from the encounter site. A significant cache of weapons, including INSAS and SLR rifles, explosives, and daily-use items, was also seized. The operation is being conducted jointly by teams from the Chhattisgarh Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and specialised anti Maoist units.
