Mumbai, Sept. 14 -- The Supreme Court is expected to deliver its verdict on September 15 regarding petitions challenging the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act.
After the central government passed the legislation, it faced severe criticism, leading to several petitions being filed in the apex court, out of which only five have been accepted for hearing. The petitioners have expressed hope that the verdict will be in their favour.
Among the five petitioners whose cases were heard by the Supreme Court is Mumbai-based social activist Mohammed Jamil Merchant.
Known for his public welfare initiatives, Merchant is the only petitioner from Maharashtra in this matter.
