New Delhi, Nov. 20 -- The Supreme Court today stayed the Madras High Court's order transferring the investigation into the murder of BSP leader and prominent Dalit activist Armstrong to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The stay came while the Court was hearing a special leave petition filed by the State of Tamil Nadu challenging the High Court's order quashing the chargesheet filed by the State Police and directing a CBI probe.

A bench, comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi, noted that although the Supreme Court had earlier, on October 10, stayed the High Court's decision quashing the chargesheet, it had not halted the CBI investigation.
