New Delhi, Aug. 4 -- The Supreme Court today stayed the Kerala High Court's sweeping ban on the use and sale of single-use plastic in the state's hilly regions, public gatherings, weddings and hospitality sector.
A bench, comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, issued notice on the petitions challenging the High Court's directive and stayed its operation until further orders.
The petitioners include manufacturers of compostable carry bags and compostable paper products, who argued that the High Court's directions were passed beyond its jurisdiction and without following due process.
