New Delhi, Sept. 26 -- The Supreme Court today stayed the Andhra Pradesh High Court's order directing the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged adulteration of Tirupati laddus.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Justice N.V. Anjaria put on hold the High Court's observation that the CBI Director had violated apex court directions by appointing an officer outside the SIT to conduct the probe.

Hearing a plea by the CBI Director, the Bench held that there was no illegality in delegating the task of investigation to an officer not formally part of the SIT, particularly when the entire probe was under the supervision of the Director himself.
