New Delhi, Nov. 17 -- The Supreme Court on Monday indicated that it may issue "unusual orders" to curb the growing menace of "digital arrest" scams, which have led to large-scale extortion of citizens across the country.

A Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi made the observations while allowing an intervention application filed by the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA).

The Court was informed that one of the senior members of SCAORA had recently fallen victim to a sophisticated cyber fraud.

Justice Surya Kant remarked that the situation might require unprecedented judicial directions to safeguard citizens.
