New Delhi, Sept. 26 -- The Supreme Court today directed the Governor of West Bengal and the Chief Minister to place on record their reasons for having reservations, if any, against certain candidates recommended by the Search-cum-Selection Committee for appointment as Vice Chancellors of state universities.
A Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi was hearing the long-pending dispute over appointments to West Bengal universities.
Earlier, in July, the apex court had modified its directions and left it to a Committee led by former Chief Justice of India U.U. Lalit to frame its own order of preference for Vice Chancellor appointments in 15 remaining universities.
