New Delhi, Sept. 26 -- The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging alleged discrimination in the grant of permanent commission (PC) to women Short Service Commission (SSC) officers in the armed forces.

A Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, and Justice N Kotiswar Singh heard appeals filed against the Armed Forces Tribunal's July 2024 order which had denied permanent commissions to several women officers.

Appearing for the Centre, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati argued that no special dispensation could be created for five or ten years in favour of women candidates.
