New Delhi, Sept. 25 -- The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions raising a crucial constitutional question: whether judicial officers who had completed seven years of practice as advocates before joining the subordinate judiciary can be considered for appointment as Additional District Judges against vacancies reserved for direct recruitment from the Bar.

A five-judge Constitution Bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justices M.M. Sundresh, Aravind Kumar, Satish Chandra Sharma, and Vinod K. Chandran heard the matter over three days before reserving judgment.
