New Delhi, Aug. 4 -- The Supreme Court today declined to entertain a petition seeking the registration of an FIR against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for an alleged hate speech targeting the Hindi-speaking population.
The petition had also sought de-recognition of the MNS as a political party.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran advised the petitioner to first approach the Bombay High Court, stating that the appropriate legal remedy lay at the jurisdictional level.
The petitioner, Sunil Shukla, National President of the Uttar Bharatiya Vikas Sena, then sought permission to withdraw the plea with liberty to pursue the matter before the High Court.
