New Delhi, Nov. 19 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday indicated that it may consider striking down Talaq-e-Hasan, a form of divorce under which a Muslim man can unilaterally divorce his wife by pronouncing "talaq" once a month over three months.

The Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, and Justice N Kotiswar Singh also hinted at referring the matter to a five-judge Constitution Bench and asked all parties to file notes outlining the major legal questions involved.

"Once you give us a brief note, we will consider the desirability of referring it to a five-judge Bench. Give us broadly the questions that may arise. Then we will see how those issues are predominantly legal in nature," the Bench said.
