New Delhi, March 16 -- The Supreme Court on Monday quashed criminal proceedings against Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad for his social media posts on 'Operation Sindoor' after the Haryana Government informed that it has refused to grant sanction for his prosecution.

The Haryana Police had arrested professor Mahmudabad in May last year. The case arose from an FIR registered against Prof Mahmudabad over certain social media comments regarding the treatment of minorities in India, which were posted in the context of appreciation for Colonel Sofiya Qureshi leading the press briefings of Operation Sindoor.
