New Delhi, Aug. 23 -- The Supreme Court today ordered status quo on the eviction drive in Golaghat district of Assam, covering the villages of Negheribill, Gelajan, Bidyapur, Rajapukhuri, Uriamghat and adjoining areas.
A bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Atul Chandurkar issued notice on a batch of Special Leave Petitions (SLPs) filed by residents challenging the Gauhati High Court's order upholding eviction action initiated under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891.
