New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- The Supreme Court today ordered registration of an FIR, constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), and initiation of disciplinary action in the Akola communal violence case that occurred on May 13, 2023.
The Bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma delivered the judgment in response to the failure of the police to investigate the matter properly.
The case involves 17-year-old Mohammed Afzal, both a victim and eyewitness, who was brutally assaulted during the violence and witnessed the murder of Vilas Mahadevrao Gaikwad.
Despite filing a detailed complaint dated June 1, 2023, the police neither registered an FIR nor recorded his testimony.
