New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- The Supreme Court today modified its earlier order of August 11, which had directed rounding up of all stray dogs in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and prohibited their release from shelters.
A three-judge Special Bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria clarified that the prohibition on release of stray dogs will remain in abeyance and that all healthy dogs shall be released back into the same areas after being dewormed, vaccinated and sterilized.
However, the Bench made it clear that dogs infected with rabies or displaying aggressive behavior will not be released into public spaces and shall be kept confined in shelters.
