New Delhi, July 22 -- The Supreme Court today appreciated the "outstanding efforts" of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in probing the alleged nexus between real estate companies and banks in the National Capital Region (NCR), observing that poor homebuyers had been taken to ransom by builders and lenders alike.

A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh was hearing a batch of pleas concerning stalled real estate projects, where it had earlier ordered a CBI probe into the builder-bank nexus.

The Court noted that the CBI has filed an interim status report detailing the outcome of seven preliminary inquiries, actions taken, examination of over 1000 persons, and inspection of 58 project sites.
