New Delhi, Nov. 17 -- The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice, returnable in two weeks, to the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly in a contempt petition alleging failure to decide within the stipulated time the disqualification pleas filed against 10 BRS MLAs who defected to the Congress.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, while considering the contempt petitions, expressed displeasure over the Speaker's inaction.
"It is for him (Speaker) whether he wants to decide the matter or face contempt by the Court... this is gross contempt of the Court," the CJI said, noting that the deadline to decide the petitions expired on October 31.
