New Delhi, Nov. 27 -- The Supreme Court today heard a writ petition filed by advocate Ranjeet Baburao Nimbalkar challenging the August 1 notification issued by the Bombay High Court under Section 51(3) of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, for the creation of the Kolhapur Circuit Bench, which became operational on August 18.

The bench was inaugurated by former Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai.

The petitioner argued that the notification failed to adequately consider the recommendations of the 1985 Jaswant Singh Commission, which had laid down detailed criteria for setting up High Court benches away from the principal seat.
