New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- Bringing a protracted and contentious matrimonial dispute to a close, the Supreme Court today granted divorce to a couple and directed that the estranged wife be given ownership of a flat in Mumbai as part of the final alimony settlement.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran pronounced the final order based on a negotiated resolution between the parties.

The Court noted that the flat, located in the upscale Kalpataru residential complex in Mumbai, would be transferred to the woman without any legal encumbrance.
