New Delhi/Shimla, Sept. 26 -- In a significant setback to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Supreme Court has extended the anticipatory bail protection of Des Raj, a former Additional General Manager of the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL).
The agency is probing the mysterious death of HPPCL Chief Engineer Vimal Negi.
The apex court's decision effectively bars the CBI from arresting or taking Des Raj into custody for the next several months, potentially hampering the investigation's progress.
The order came as the court deferred the hearing of Des Raj's Special Leave Petition (SLP), challenging the Himachal Pradesh High Court's rejection of his bail plea.
