New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea challenging the Centre's notifications declaring the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and its associated ideological expressions as terrorist organisations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi held that the petitioner's grievances, including claims of wrongful arrest of himself and his son for alleged ISIS links, must be addressed before the competent criminal court and not through a blanket constitutional challenge.

The petition contested two government notifications issued in February 2015 and June 2018 under Section 35 of the UAPA.
