New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 31 -- In a crucial judgment concerning the political landscape of Telangana, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the State Assembly Speaker to take a decision within three months on the disqualification petitions filed against MLAs who switched parties.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Justice B R Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih, set aside the earlier order of the Telangana High Court Division Bench and emphasised the urgency in addressing such cases under the anti-defection law.
The court, while rejecting the direct plea to disqualify the MLAs, stated that the "operation successful, patient died" approach should not apply in matters of constitutional morality and legislative ethics. It als...
