New Delhi, Dec. 15 -- The Supreme Court today directed the Tamil Nadu Government to hold direct consultations with the union Government on the issue of establishing Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in the State and to submit a report before the Court.

A Bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice R. Mahadevan also directed the authorities to ascertain the extent of land required for setting up JNVs in each district of Tamil Nadu.

The Court clarified that the exercise ordered was only exploratory in nature.
