New Delhi, Aug. 21 -- The Supreme Court today declined to grant an urgent hearing to petitioners challenging a recent notification issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) directing the rounding up of stray dogs in the national capital.

The matter was mentioned before a bench of Justices J K Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi, but the Court refused to pass any immediate directions.

The stray dog issue has been at the centre of intense debate in Delhi after a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, on August eight, directed the municipal authorities to begin rounding up stray dogs from all areas, with priority to vulnerable localities, and to establish shelters with an initial capacity of at least 5,000 dogs within eight weeks...
