New Delhi, Dec. 8 -- The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a plea seeking nationwide directions for the constitution of committees to examine encroachment of temple properties across the country, observing that such a sweeping order would be "unmanageable."A Bench, comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, was hearing a writ petition which sought a uniform, countrywide oversight mechanism to monitor temple lands.
At the outset, the CJI remarked that temple management trusts already function in several States, and issues of mismanagement or encroachment can be addressed by courts on a case-by-case basis.
