New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- The Supreme Court today declined to advance the date of hearing on petitions seeking the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, noting that the matter is already listed for October 10.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, and Justice N.V. Anjaria took up a request from a lawyer seeking early listing of a contempt petition relating to the abrogation of Article 370.
The counsel submitted that "statehood was to be granted to Jammu and Kashmir" and pleaded for urgent consideration.
Rejecting the request, CJI Gavai said, "It is already listed on October 10. We are in the midst of a constitutional bench hearing (a presidential reference on timelines for governors and the president)."Earlier, on Au...
