New Delhi, Nov. 17 -- The Supreme Court today clarified that its earlier directions on reservation for Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) in Maharashtra's local body elections have been misinterpreted and reiterated that the 50% cap on total reservations cannot be crossed for the upcoming polls scheduled on January 31, 2026.
A Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi made the observation while hearing pleas challenging the State's move to implement a fresh OBC reservation matrix based on the Banthia Commission's report.
