New Delhi, Oct. 10 -- While granting regular bail to a 15-year-boy accused of rape of a minor, the Supreme Court held that there is an urgent need to introduce sex education at an earlier stage in schools rather than beginning from Class IX, as is currently the norm.

Recognizing that the accused himself was a minor, the Supreme Court had earlier on September 10, 2025 directed his release on interim bail, subject to terms set by the Juvenile Justice Board.

A Bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Alok Aradhe underscored that children should be made aware of the physical and emotional changes associated with puberty in a timely and sensitive manner.
